• Along For the Ride

    Original sketch from April 2014

It was eight months ago I decided it was time to paint my favourite band. I've been wanting to paint Crazy Horse for years, and there just never was time, until I finally made the time. This past December 5th, 6th and 7th, I painted under the big moon until 5 A.M. each night, and finished it.

The paint on those nights knew where it was going before I did. It's not all the time when I'm painting that I'm able to be in the zone like that, but when it happens it's a magical feeling seeing things on the canvas in my head before it happens, and then it does. Think about the most excited feeling of anticipation you can remember.
    It's kinda like that.

I've been painting with linen, hemp and masonite since 2002, and since around 2010 I've been using Portland U.S.A. Gamblin oil paints whose factory is 100% wind powered, with Eco-House mediums. It does all start with you and me to do what we can to Protect Earth. I do what I can, and I am donating a portion of the sales from these large prints to help End Fracking Now in Canada. It is impossible for any visual artist to capture the feeling of a Crazy Horse concert, but I thought I would give it a try. I have included a few of my friends in the crowd who share the same Love and Only Love that I do, and if you look, I'm sure you are there too. My wife Jeanette and I also make a cameo appearance. Pablo Picasso once  said "Art is not made just to decorate rooms. It is an offensive weapon in the defense against the enemy." Well Mother Earth has many enemies, and if we can help end fracking, this painting is a perfect example of being just that.
